iVisit.... Hobsons Choice

When Hobson’s Choice was premiered at the Royal Opera House in 1989, David Bintley’s earthy comedy after Harold Brighouse’s play received a standing ovation the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the premiere of Frederick Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée in 1960. With one of those scores you can’t help but whistle, composed by Paul Reade composer of themes for The Antiques Roadshow and The Flumps, the ballet has remained hugely popular ever since.

Don’t miss your chance to join feisty Maggie as she puts the world to rights, outsmarts her inebriated father, bags herself the perfect man and starts up her own business to boot, in what is without doubt a classic of our time

iVisit.... Brahms' Symphony No. 2

A song of summer: Arthur Honegger steps out of his chalet and watches the morning sunlight spreading across the Swiss Alps. Johannes Brahms relaxes by a mountain lake and writes a symphony that seems to bask in the warmth of an August afternoon. And far away in France, Ravel remembers lost friends, in a sweet, sad tribute to the French baroque. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will make every note glow.

The name’s Bond – James Bond. The CBSO puts on its tux and pours itself a Vesper Martini with some of the sassiest signature tunes in cinematic history: six decades of girls, gadgets, supervillains and knockout songs. Well, you know what they say: Diamonds are Forever. These tunes are every bit as enduring – and as brilliant. Guaranteed to leave you shaken… and stirred!

iVisit.... Murmurs

As the world grows closer together, our lives become ever more entwined. Borders between different cultures blur, broadening our understanding of the world - and the society we live in. Incorporating a musical instrument from a different musical tradition is just one way composers have reacted to our increasingly borderfree world - and so we invite Wu Wei, one of the world’s best players of the Chinese instrument, the Sheng, to join us.
